Film Description: An evangelical couple, disenchanted with conventional methods of providing aid to Africans, decides to go italone. They adopt nine teenage Kenyan girls, raising them alongside their five biological children. The manychallenges and rewardsof this new age orphanage are revealed through Kate’s “DIY recipe” for homemade pizza.
Director Biography: Wesley Shrum is Professor of Sociology and Director of the Video Ethnography Laboratory atLouisiana State University. He has worked in Africa and India for the past 25 years. Although hebegan making films in 2002 for educational use, he later moved intofeature documentaries(Brother Time,2012;Women of the Storm, 2015) and shorts. With Greg Scott he founded theJournal of Video Ethnography, the first journal consisting exclusively of films, and theEthnografilmFestival in Paris, France, now in it’s eighth season.
